About

Noelle Richard (they/them) is a queer/trans artist based in the Deep South and Midwest. Noelle’s practice is focused on drawing, printmaking, and publications, though they occasionally produce experimental video and audio work. They earned a BFA in Drawing with an emphasis in Photography+Video from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 2017.

Noelle runs the brand POOFYDUSTCLOUD, producing art prints, accessories, zines, and apparel with graphic, minimal illustrations and an industrial + sci-fi twist. Sustainability, craftsmanship, and the minutiae are vital to everything POOFYDUSTCLOUD. Beyond POOF, they’ve worked on numerous short and feature films, and served on the selection committee for the 43rd and 44th Cleveland International Film Festival. In November 2019, they were commissioned by For Freedoms to create an image for the platform’s billboard campaign in collaboration with Amanda D. King. This commission resulted in as well as a billboard that was installed in Cleveland in late 2019, and continues to be highlighted by For Freedoms at events and exhibitions. Their 2019 show through the Gordon Square Arts District, “no water,” was their first solo show. They’ve self-published numerous artist books and zines, and their first non-fiction title will be published by Purple Palm Press in 2024.

Currently, Noelle prints out of the New Orleans Community Printshop, and occasionally works as a creative project manager and installer for art exhibitions and retail popups. When they’re not hunched over a laptop gulping iced coffee, they can be found driving along back roads taking photos of abandoned gas station signs and billboards.
